Jose Perez Dallas Styling Apprentice Q&A:
I knew from a very young age that I wanted to do hair. Before graduating high school I looked into cosmetology schools and fell in love with Paul Mitchell Dallas. While attending Paul Mitchell I participated in outside events such as haircuts for the homeless and styling for fashion shows at the Art Institute of Dallas.
Since graduating my love for this industry has grown tremendously. The constantly changing trends and unique fashion is what inspires me the most to be creative in this industry. I hope to become an educator working hair shows and doing editorial work for magazines and fashion shows. My main goal is to set new trends and inspire others to think outside the box and be creative.
Why do you love hair? I love being able to make someone feel amazing about themselves by transforming their hair. Giving someone a new found confidence and some sass is the best reward for me.
Favorite Service(s) to Provide: My favorite services to provide would be long haircuts, short haircuts, color, working with all different types of textures and of course helping people go blonde!
Favorite book? Any of the Harry Potter books. I wish Hogwarts could be my second home!
If you were stranded on a desert island which 3 hair products would you want with you? I would definitely have to bring some Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil shampoo and conditioner. I couldn’t live without Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil to keep my hair soft and shiny!
If you had to do one style of hair for the rest of your life, what would it be? Short and blonde! It’s so much fun and I never get tired of how versatile it can be.
Grade you got on your first hair test? I got a 95 on my first hair test, I was a huge nerd when it came to cosmetology school
Personal Hair Horror Story: When I was in cosmetology school I had a shampoo press that took me 5 hours! She had so much hair – OMG! Needless to say, I was a bit tired but thankfully she was really sweet and made me laugh.
Favorite Drink? It’s a close tie between Strawberry lemonade and Raspberry iced tea, I can never get enough!
Is there one gift you don’t mind getting over and over again? I would love to get clothes from Melrose Avenue. It’s my favorite shopping spot and I always find something new and cute.
