Curly Hair Tips From a Pro

The natural curl style is becoming more and more popular lately. This is a simpler style that anyone on the go can achieve. Like with any style, to get the desired end result, you need to have the correct product foundation.

Curly hair is naturally a moisture seeker. Even if you are styling your curly hair straight, you are still going to want to add as much moisture to your hair to prevent it from looking dry and brittle. To achieve moisture, I recommend using either Bumble & Bumble Curl Conscious Shampoo and Conditioner, or, Oribe’s Moisture and Control Shampoo and Conditioner. Both products work beautifully to moisturize the hair and fight frizz with out weighing it down.

Once you have laid your foundation, you can then proceed with styling your hair. The next step is to use a primer to prep the hair for the rest of the products. Remember, curly hair is a moisture seeker. I would recommend the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil primer. It has a blend of seven oils that helps to keep the hair moisturized while it fights frizz. To use, spray lightly through the mid shaft and ends of damp hair.

Once you have prepped the hair, it’s time to add the styling products. The styling products all depend on the look you are wanting and what your natural curl pattern is. If you have a loose curl pattern and want to give it a little more life, I would recommend the Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Defining Cream. If you have tight curl patterns that are hard to handle, I recommend the Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Calming Cream.

Another one of my favorites is the Bumble and Bumble Surf Infusion spray. I particularly love this product for a beach look. With these products, I recommend applying mid shaft through the ends, then, twist your hair the way you want your curl pattern to look. If you want a tighter curl, take a smaller section of hair and use a tight twist.  If you want a looser curl, take a bigger section and use a loose twist.

Ok, so you have laid your foundation, you prepped the hair, and you used the appropriate products, now, we sit and wait. For the best, polished  natural curl style, allow the hair to completely air dry. This may take a while, so, I recommend doing all of these steps first thing in the morning so your hair can dry while you are having your cup of coffee. What ever you do, do not touch your hair while it is drying! This will create frizz.

Now that your hair is fully dry, it’s time to shake out the twists. Go ahead, you can touch your hair now. Use your hands to break up the twists by running your fingers in a downward motion while shaking them. Once your hair looks the way you would like it to, spray a little finishing spray to help keep the style in place the whole day.  My favorites are the Bumble and Bumble Does It All hairspray and  Oribe’s Apres Beach spray.

The Bumble and Bumble Does It All hairspray is a light weight hairspray that won’t leave your hair feeling crunchy. The Oribe Apres Beach spray is another beach spray that offers a light hold.  You can use both, or, choose the product that works better for your style.

Now your ready for the day! Happy Styling!
