October is on its way and fall is in the air. For most, this means Ugg boots and pumpkin spice EVERYTHING! For others, this month is known as Breast Cancer Awareness month. This month is dedicated to informing those about the disease, treatments, and support for those who struggle with the disease.

Breast Cancer is a disease that occurs when malignant cells form in the breast. Although this disease is highly treatable  it is still not to be talked about lightly.  It is the #1 type of cancer that is found in women. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this yesr. That adds up to an estimated 220,000 women each year that will be diagnosed and an estimated 40,000 of those diagnosed will not survive. Did you know that breast cancer effects men as well? It’s estimated that 2,100 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

The most important part to a successful treatment and recovery  is early detection. The success rate of treatment during the early stages of cancer is about 98%. Along with treatment, a healthy life style filled with healthy foods and exercise is recommended.

Along with making people aware of the seriousness of breast cancer, Breast Cancer Awareness month is also dedicated to giving support to those who are suffering with the disease  as well as those who have friends or family who are effected by it. There are several groups who dedicate themselves to this purpose.
