Why Wig Cap Construction is So Important

There are so many things to know when you are new to buying wigs. I have been in the wig and hair extension business for a long time and I still get a little overwhelmed with all types of wigs are out there. The first thing people think when purchasing a wig is human hair or synthetic. That is a great place start. One of the most important things after the type of wig fiber you want is the construction of the wig. It is the part that touches your scalp. Depending on why you want a wig may dictate which wig cap construction is right for you. I will be honest - see a pro. You don't want to guess what will be right. It really is that important. In the meantime, I put together a detailed listing of the basic wig cap constructions that are available. The info [...]

How I Became A Wig Girl – Ellen Wille Wigs Review

Laura Barsotti is stylist with over 25 years of salon experience. This is her Ellen Wille Wigs Review. Back in my 20's I used to wear wigs for the fun of it - just because I could. It was a great way to change my hair for the day without commitment. When I got a bit older I stopped wearing them. I felt that wearing wigs and all of the fun colors wasn't appropriate for my age. I thought, "What will people think?". It took me awhile to figure out that if it's a really great quality wig, no one even knows your wearing one. (unless you tell them) So now in my 40's, I am wearing them again and I love them! The return to wigs started with an accident. I sustained an injury to my finger preventing me from doing my own hair. In addition, due to the shock of [...]

The Stylist Behind Oribe Haircare – Oribe Canales

Cuban born, American stylist Oribe Canales, at the age of six, fled Fidel Castro's Havana with his family in 1956 to North Carolina, where he grew up. In the early 70s, after high school, Oribe moved to New York with the hopes of becoming a movie star. At the age of eighteen, Oribe worked as a bartender and waiter at a club called Blue Angel. Oribe Canales would serve drinks, salads and desserts before quickly running back stage to change into a magicians costume or even G-strings while picking up naked girls. "You do crazy things when you're young." Says Oribe. The Blue Angel burned down one night. Unemployed Oribe Canales didn't let that stop him though. Oribe quickly went to work at a friend's salon as a receptionist on 3rd Ave. Oribe said, "I started working at a hairdressing place that a friend owned in New York. I saw [...]

Okay so it is one of those days where your hair is all unruly – slightly puffy, slightly feral, a little greasy, yet with more fly-aways than a teen in the 70s. What is Minoxidil and How it Can Help Regrow Hair

Minoxidil, a vasodilator solution, promotes hair regrowth in people who are experiencing hair loss or thinning. The minoxidil dilates the scalp blood vessels which improves hair follicle function and stimulates hair regrowth, as well as, it extends the growth phase of each strand. Clinical studies have shown that people who used minoxidil for 8 months between the ages of 18-45, 19% of users reported to have moderate hair regrowth while 40% reported to have minor hair regrowth, and after a year of use, the numbers jump to 65% of users notice a difference. Minoxidil has an excellent safety record and it can even be used with other hair products with out any fear that the product will interfere with the effectiveness. You may notice results from the minoxidil in as early as four months however, the best results will show at the 12-14 month mark. If you stop using the [...]

Crown Hair Extensions for Thinning Hair

A good way of understanding why hair thinning in women and hair loss occur is to compare the scalp to a lush garden. If the ground is fertile and has appropriate amount of chemicals that can ensure its plants grow healthy, the land is going to remain lush. However, if there is an imbalance of chemicals in the ground or if the land is infertile, it will always remain barren. The same goes for our hair and our scalp. Lack of proper nutrition, chemical imbalances in the body, using treated water to wash hair, regular application of chemicals etc are just some of the reasons that may end up causing hair loss or hair thinning. Whatever the case may be, a lot of people go to doctors for treatment but they may not work all the time. While medical help is always necessary, a great way to make hair look [...]

Hair Loss and What Causes It

Hair loss affects both men and women and there are many factors can contribute to thinning hair. Hair cells reproduce quicker than any other cell in our bodies, which leaves them more susceptible to being affected by changes in health and age. However, most people with hair loss have a genetic predisposition to do so. Facets that can contribute to hair loss or thinning include (but not limited to) Genetics - This involves natural age related hormonal changes caused by testosterone converting into Dihydro-testosterone, which is inherited from either parent. Diet - The lack of necessary nutrition can contribute hair loss. Therefore, high consumption of animal lipids and the lack of amino acids, biotin, iron, protein, and zinc can cause hair to thin out. Environmental Factors - Pollutants from our water such as chlorine, minerals and metals can remain on our hair and scalp due to frequent washing. Also, pollutants in the air, like pseudo-estrogens [...]

Should I get a Pixie Cut?

Summer is upon us and Dallas' triple digits temps along with it. The season for bright blonde and pixie cuts is here! Before you consider a Ginnifer Goodwin inspired cut, here are a few things to take into consideration. What Is A Pixie? Pixie cuts made their first bang on the fashion seen in the 1950's when Audrey Hepburn sported the cut in the movie Roman Holiday. The popularity of the cut continued through the decades  with model Twiggy in the 1970's and Demi Moore in the 1990's. What made these looks all so iconic was how bold they were. Short and tapered in the back, with a little bang in the front, the pixie had become a fun and flirty style for women looking for a little edge. Should I get a Pixie Cut? How To Choose A Pixie Cut? Pixie cuts come in all shapes and sizes. So how do you [...]
