Flipping your hair upwards with a flat iron, curling iron, or round brush is quite frankly out of style.  In the mid-late nineties it was quite the trend. If a woman had short-mid length hair cut, flipping out the ends was really cute.

However, years have passed and times have changed. Today's trend focuses more on a slight bend in the hair at the ends. This helps with building volume in the hair, and giving your style movement. When using your flat iron, instead of going straight down and making the hair stick straight, give the ends a very slight arc towards your body, not away. Do the same with your curling iron, giving a very nice bend at the ends, or even with a round brush.

Times change, and so do styles. This is one that's been done, and is time to go.
